Relationship Issues.
If you’re planning to invest in real estate, you should know from the get-go that it’s a relationship and people-driven business. I think too many people treat it like a commodity or a transactional business, but I’d argue that the relationships is what can often make or break an investor’s career. If you’re the investor, you should think of yourself as the captain of the ship or CEO of a company. You’ll need to make decisions, form a relationship. Really, no one can do those things for you. If that sounds scary or overwhelming, the good news is that in this academy, you’ll be armed to make those decisions confidently. And we’ll show you how to start forming and fostering the meaningful relationships that will help you accomplish your investing goals.
That being said, you need to get comfortable being a bit uncomfortable. If we’ve never owned or operated our own business in the past, we may have never had to advocate for ourselves that we felt taken advantage of. In this business, people will try to take advantage of you. That is another semi-guarantee. So you got to be equipped to spot it, but also don’t be afraid to listen to that little voice inside of you or your gut. If something feels off or doesn’t seem right, and also learn to lean on those around you, who you trust, be it another investor or trusted advisor, a coach or a mentor, and don’t worry about looking silly. We’ve all had to start somewhere. And you’ll never grow and learn unless you ask questions.
So it’s important to know that managing and building relationships may not come naturally to many of us. So it’s important to identify if it’s even something you’re willing to try your hand at since it does go hand in hand with real estate investing. And so I encourage anyone listening to this if making relationships, building relationships, fostering relationships seem scary or foreign, or really out of your comfort zone to sit and wrestle with that for a little bit. Because again, this is absolutely a relationship business. I plan to help teach and educate all of you how to build meaningful and foster meaningful relationships, but it has to come from you.
You have to be willing to take that first step. And believe me, I’ve looked so silly over the years, asking the dumb questions, fumbling over my words, tripping over myself. But I’ve learned that it’s okay because as we try our best, people see that we’re trying. People are willing to give us the benefit of the doubt. So again, if you’re someone that doesn’t like interacting with people, don’t worry, I will help you along the way.
